SDP Chieftain Dr. V.C Commiserates with Family of Late Mrs. Okafor, Pledges Monthly Support for Twins

A frontline chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and senatorial hopeful for the FCT in the 2027 elections, Dr. Victor Chukwuma Imuka, popularly known as Dr. V.C, has paid a condolence visit to the family of late Mrs. Chidinma Okafor, who tragically passed away during childbirth in Kagini, Abuja.

Mrs. Okafor left behind twin babies, and during the visit on Saturday, Dr. V.C not only consoled the grieving family but also pledged to provide a monthly stipend to support the welfare of the children.

He also presented them with a cash gift to assist in their immediate needs.

“It is indeed a painful loss. We cannot bring back our sister, but we can stand by her children and ensure they do not suffer,” Dr. V.C said.

The widower, Mr. Emmanuel Okafor, expressed heartfelt gratitude, praying for God’s blessings on the senatorial aspirant. Community leaders in Kagini also lauded the gesture, describing it as a show of true compassion.

Members of the New Frontier Movement, a support group backing Dr. V.C’s senatorial ambition, turned out in large numbers to welcome him during the visit.

The visit ended with prayers for the repose of Mrs. Okafor’s soul and words of encouragement for the bereaved family.

58,820 Youths Register for Data Protection Training – Youth Minister

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has announced the close of registration for the Youth Data Protection Awareness & Training (YDPAT) programme, which attracted 58,820 young Nigerians within just 53 days.

The initiative, organised in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and Globe Takers Foundation, drew participants from all six geopolitical zones, underscoring the growing interest of Nigerian youths in digital literacy, data protection, and personal development.

Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, hailed the massive turnout as proof of the commitment of young people to nation-building.

He assured that every registrant would benefit from the Ministry’s broader youth development agenda.

According to the Minister, the training will commence with an initial cohort of 5,000 participants, selected to ensure fair national representation. Other applicants will be engaged through complementary programmes to guarantee inclusivity.

The training is designed in a hybrid format, combining virtual and physical sessions to ensure nationwide accessibility. Selection and accreditation of participants will run through September, with announcements expected in October. Virtual classes are scheduled to begin in November, while physical training sessions will follow in December 2025.

The Ministry also called on development partners, state governments, and private sector stakeholders to support the YDPAT programme, stressing that collective effort would help expand its reach and impact.

“The Ministry is committed to raising a digitally aware and empowered generation one capable of safeguarding their rights in the digital age while contributing to Nigeria’s data-driven economy,” Olawande said.

Defence Minister Reaffirms Nigeria’s Support for African Defence Cooperation, Hails Namibian Staff College

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (CON, mni), has commended the Namibian Command and Staff College for its role in promoting defence and education collaboration across the continent.

The commendation came on Tuesday, September 16, when a 26-member delegation from the Namibian Command and Staff College (Course 05/2025), led by its Commandant, Brigadier Benhard Erastus, paid a study visit to the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Abuja.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Minister, the Director of the Joint Service Department, Mrs. Bosede Olaniyi, conveyed Nigeria’s readiness to share experiences and strengthen partnerships with Namibia and other African countries in the collective pursuit of peace and security.

Badaru also recalled Nigeria’s historic role during Africa’s liberation struggles and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to initiatives that enhance regional stability.

He stressed the importance of African unity, warning against external influences seeking to undermine the continent’s cohesion.

In his remarks, Brigadier Erastus expressed gratitude for the warm reception and Nigeria’s willingness to share insights on defence policy, civil-military relations and regional security operations.

He explained that Namibia chose Nigeria for the study tour because of its leadership role in Africa and strong experience in defence and security matters.

The visit featured a presentation on the Ministry of Defence architecture by the Joint Service Department, followed by an interactive session. As a gesture of appreciation, the Namibian delegation presented a plaque of honour to the Ministry, which was received by Mrs. Olaniyi on behalf of the Minister.

NUPENG Kicks Against Allegations of Depot Collections, Labels Claims “Blackmail”

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has dismissed allegations that it collects illicit levies at petroleum depots, describing the claims as “blackmail” aimed at tarnishing its image and swaying public opinion.

In a strongly worded statement, the union accused Dangote Refineries and its allies of orchestrating smear campaigns following NUPENG’s victory in unionization battles.

“They are pained by our victory and are out for revenge by attacking our reputation,” the union said, adding that recent social media claims linking NUPENG to smuggling, sabotage of refineries, and N1-per-litre charges on petroleum products were baseless.

NUPENG stressed that several associations, including the Truck Owners Association, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and Major Marketers Association, operate at depots and also collect dues from members. However, the union argued it is unfairly singled out because of its visibility and influence.

The union explained that its dues fund critical services such as safety training with the FRSC, police, and fire service; health insurance for tanker drivers; and security mobilization against highway banditry and hijackers.

“No employer provides health insurance for tanker drivers, so we had to step in. We also mobilize security agencies on the highways. These things cost money,” NUPENG stated.

The union further alleged that the controversy was part of wider efforts by vested interests to weaken its influence and ease Dangote’s dominance in the sector.

“The issue of collections at the depots is pure blackmail. There is no way to defend ourselves against an already biased public opinion,” it added.

RMAFC Demands Oil Firms Step Up CSR in Host Communities

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has issued a stern call to oil companies operating in Nigeria to fully meet their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) obligations to host communities, warning that neglect will no longer be tolerated.

Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, gave the charge during a mediation meeting in Abuja between Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), Orient Petroleum, and host communities in Anambra State.

The session, held on Friday and witnessed by the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), was convened following allegations of neglect against the oil firms.

Dr. Shehu stressed that RMAFC would ensure strict adherence to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), insisting on transparency and fairness in CSR implementation.

“We expect oil companies to meet their obligations to the people in whose communities they operate,” he said.

Hon. Ekene Enefe, Chairman of RMAFC’s Investment Monitoring Committee (IMC), criticized SEEPCO’s CSR performance, describing it as unsatisfactory.

He directed the company to provide audited reports of its 3% host community expenditure since the PIA’s implementation and warned that oversight visits would be conducted to verify compliance.

“We want to see real projects such as roads, schools, hospitals, electricity, and jobs. That is the result we expect from CSR deductions,” he stated.

Community representatives from Ogwu Ikpele and Ogwu Aniocha lamented years of broken promises, demanding visible development.

“Our people live without roads, schools, or hospitals while companies drill oil on our land. We want fairness and projects that touch lives,” said Mr. Esumai Patrick.

In response, SEEPCO’s representative, Barr. Emmanuel Ajang, assured that the company had commenced implementing its Host Community Development Trust, while Orient Petroleum disclosed plans to scale up gas production through a new partnership.

The NUPRC also affirmed that it was monitoring compliance closely, reconciling metering systems, and tracking Host Community Trust projects.

Other RMAFC Commissioners present stressed the importance of accountability in crude oil reporting and ensuring that host communities benefit directly from oil operations.

Ukomu Igala Organisation Inaugurates New Leadership, Calls for Unity and Development

The Ukomu Igala Organisation, a prominent socio-cultural body, has reiterated its commitment to fostering unity and championing development within the Igala nation, Kogi State, and Nigeria at large.

The call was made during the inauguration of the National Executive Council of the organisation held in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the inauguration Committee Chairman,Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Jibrin Okutepa, described the occasion as historic, stressing that it marked a turning point in the collective quest for unity, peace, and progress of the Igala people.

He urged leaders and stakeholders to rise above self-interest and confront pressing challenges such as insecurity, poor infrastructure, and poverty bedeviling Kogi East.

Mr. Okutepa lamented the deplorable condition of schools, hospitals, and roads in parts of the state, describing them as obstacles to human and socio-economic development.

He tasked the new leadership of Ukomu Igala Organisation with driving a renaissance that prioritises cultural preservation, youth empowerment, and accountability from political office holders.

The newly inaugurated National Executive Council will be led by retired Major General James Alilu Ataguba, who pledged to provide purposeful leadership and ensure the organisation becomes a strong platform for advocacy, collaboration, and transformation.

Maj. Gen. Ataguba assured members that under his stewardship, Ukomu Igala Organisation would intensify efforts in promoting peace, security, and socio-economic growth across the Igala nation.

He noted that the body will not only serve as a guardian of Igala cultural heritage but also a unifying force to galvanize the people towards shared prosperity.

According to him, the task ahead requires inclusivity and partnership: “We must embrace collective responsibility to reposition our communities. This organisation will stand as a rallying point for our people, bridging divides and promoting dialogue, innovation, and development. Our aim is to ensure that future generations inherit a legacy of strength, unity, and progress.”

In his remarks, the Eje Ofu, Alhaji Akwu Obaje, called on the Ukomu Igala Organisation to remain focused on its mission of projecting the Igala identity and strengthening unity among the people.

He stressed that cultural preservation and peaceful coexistence are essential ingredients for sustainable growth.

Alhaji Obaje further urged Igala sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, to support initiatives that enhance solidarity, progress, and the collective image of the Igala nation.

The inauguration attracted dignitaries from across Nigeria, including traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders, all of whom pledged support for the new leadership and its vision for a stronger, united Igala nation.

FG Hosts Pre-Summit Meeting Ahead of Youth Development Summit 2025

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has convened a high-level pre-summit meeting in Abuja as part of preparations for the landmark Youth Development Summit scheduled to hold on September 12, 2025.

The meeting brought together national and international stakeholders to chart a unified agenda aimed at empowering Nigerian youth through structural reforms, innovative leadership, and strategic partnerships.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, welcomed participants and partners, describing the forthcoming summit as a “launchpad for transformative change” not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

He also apologized for a slight delay in the day’s schedule, noting that the focus of the Ministry is to drive practical reforms with long-term impact.

The Minister announced the creation of two new departments to tackle systemic youth challenges:

Department of Youth Education (Youth Ed): tasked with expanding access to quality education and equipping young Nigerians with 21st-century skills.

Department of Youth Health, Mental & Physiological Affairs (YHMPA): designed to address critical concerns such as mental health, substance abuse, and overall wellness.

According to him, these departments will work closely with more than 35 national and international partners, coordinated through the Youth Ed Technical Working Group comprising ministry directors and technical advisors.

With over 70% of Nigeria’s population under 30, the Ministry is steering a new policy direction that prioritizes entrepreneurship, innovation, and human capital development.

Comrade Olawande stressed that government efforts will focus on creating an enabling environment for young Nigerians to generate jobs and sustainable opportunities, rather than relying solely on public or corporate employment.

The Ministry highlighted the contributions of global partners, including the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF), Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), African Union Nigeria, United Nations, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“These collaborations align with the African Union’s agenda on youth empowerment and position Nigeria as a leader in advancing youth-focused policies on the continent,” the Minister noted.

ISA Jafar, leader of the youth health delegation, drew attention to the limited resources and representation of youth-led health movements in policymaking spaces.

He said the upcoming Africa Youth Health Summit, backed by the Ministry and Africa CDC, will provide a platform for young leaders to engage in health policy and leadership development across Africa.

GAPU Condemns Protest at Women Affairs Ministry, Labels Action Civil Service Terrorism

The Global Alliance for Peace and Unity (GAPU) has strongly condemned the recent protest by staff of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, describing the action as an “internal coup” and an act of “civil service terrorism.”

In a statement signed by its National President, Hon. Solomon Pevkyaa, acknowledged the right of workers to voice their grievances but criticized the manner in which the protest was carried out, stressing that such actions threaten peace and order.

“For the sake of peace and unity, people should know when they are crossing the red line,” Pevkyaa cautioned.

He noted that while welfare issues are genuine concerns, resorting to harassment of Imaan-Sulaiman Ibrahim a sitting minister in her office undermines institutional respect and governance processes.

Pevekyaa further alleged that the protest “looked sponsored” and could have endangered the Minister’s life due to the trauma caused, describing the incident as “completely a garage outing.”

He urged the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to intervene urgently, investigate the matter, and curb what he described as “excesses” within the ministry’s workforce. GAPU also issued a warning that if no serious action is taken within 74 hours, the group will stage its own protest “to stop other reckless attacks in the civil service.”

Slovenian Side ND Primorje Sign Nigeria U-20 Captain Bameyi Daniel

Slovenian topflight club, ND Primorje, have announced the signing of former Nigeria U-20 captain, Bameyi Daniel, in what has been described as a major boost to the team’s ambitions in the PrvaLiga.

Head coach Milan Anđelković hailed the arrival of the young defender, noting that his international experience would strengthen the squad both domestically and in European campaigns.

“I am very happy with this signing. Bameyi is a talented player who has proven himself at the highest level with the Nigeria U-20 team. I believe he will play an important role in helping our team perform well in the league and also represent us strongly in Europe,” Anđelković said.

Club president Bojan Adžić also welcomed the move, describing it as a step in the right direction for the ambitious side.

“We are very pleased to welcome Bameyi Daniel to ND Primorje. His talent and leadership qualities are evident, and we look forward to building a successful relationship with him here in Slovenia,” Adžić stated.

The signing is widely seen as a statement of intent by ND Primorje as they seek to establish themselves as strong contenders in the Slovenian league.

Bameyi, who captained Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, has also featured for the U-23 Eagles and the home-based Super Eagles, making him one of the most versatile young defenders to emerge from Nigeria in recent years.
