You could recall that Professor Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) during the 14Th lecture series of the Faculty Law, Kwara State University, Malete had commended the University management, students and colleagues for his recognition and privilege to make his contributions towards global legal sector development as he did justice to the topic: “The Jurisprudence of Our Constitution, Rule of Law & Technicalities; The Nigeria Dilemma”.
He said as introductory messageto the lectures series: “In the name of Allah, the only master of the universe. I stand before you to present the 14th in the series of inaugural lectures of the Kwara State University, Malete, the green university for community development and entrepreneurship. I give thanks to Allah for His guidance. All my adoration goes to Him for making today’s inaugural lecture a reality”.

“Mr. Vice-Chancellor, I joined this great university on the 1st day of August, 2018 as a Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law in the Department of Jurisprudence and Public Law in the then new College of Law (Now Faculty of Law), which I started from the beginning as the pioneer Provost of Law and pioneer Dean of Law. I am most grateful to Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of this University, who saw the need for me to come home, to serve my community, my state. He is indeed a great man. Mr. Vice-Chancellor Sir, we really suffered to build the Faculty to standard. We are indeed grateful to Almighty God”.

“My presence here today marks the presentation of the First inaugural lecture from the Faculty and being the First Professor of Law, the First Inaugural Lecture from the Department of Jurisprudence and Public or any Department in the Faculty of Law. Reacting on the ground breaking research, inaugural Lecture series delivered by Prof Amuda-Kannike (SAN) on the topic: “The Jurisprudence of Our Constitution, Rule of Law & Technicalities, The Nigeria Dilemma”, World Acclaimed Distinguished Research Universities Professor of Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu has hailed the development as products of global competent research, innovation and creativity pragmatism, vision and others, while he noted that, the rule of law is a durable system of laws, institutions, norms, and community commitment that delivers four universal principles: accountability, just law, open government, and accessible and impartial justice. He said: “The rule of law is a political ideal that all citizens and institutions within a country, state, or community are accountable to the same laws. According to American Bar Association, the rule of law is a framework for government, known as the separation of powers, ensures that no one person is able to gain absolute power and stand above the other”.

“Jurisprudence imeans the philosophy and theory of law. It s a concept that puts theory and life at the center. It deals with the basic principles on which the superstructure of the law is based. Jurisprudence is used to refer to the general legal, moral, political or economic policies and principles embodied in a body of law or a body of legal philosophy. Prof Amuda-Kannike had done justice to it in line with its technicalities, dilemma in Nigerian constitution”.

French, Finnish Embassies And NiMet Discuss Mutual Areas Of Cooperation

The Embassies of Finland and France in Abuja, Nigeria, have said they will facilitate relationships between the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Finnish and French companies.

At a tripartite meeting on Monday, 3rd June, 2024, held at the French Embassy in Abuja, the Finish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Leena Pylvanainen said; “NiMet is a key institution in Nigeria. We have followed its climate and weather -related activities and we see opportunities for collaboration in infrastructural development, capacity building and project management. The Finnish Embassy in Nigeria is also keen to facilitate relationships between NiMet and Finnish companies. The DG/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike will have opportunity to meet some of them at the sidelines of the forthcoming seventy-eighth session of the Executive Council (EC‑78) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) taking place in Geneva, Switzerland from 10th to 14th of June, 2024”.

On his part, Charge D’Affaires of the French Embassy in Abuja, Jean -Francois Hasperue said that the tripartite meeting was convened to; “Explore opportunities of working together as partners”.

Responding, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Professor Charles Anosike welcomed the opportunity to engage and explore mutual areas of cooperation between the French and Finnish embassies. “NiMet services all sectors of the Nigerian economy. World Sustainable Development Goals Organization Appoints Precious Phiri as Zambia Country Representative

World Sustainable Development Goals Organization has appointed Her Excellency Precious Phiri as Zambia’s Country Representative, urging on doggedness and resilience.

The International Non-Governmental Organization, World Sustainable Development Goals Organization, worldsdgs.org, which operates across the entire UN member nations saddled with the responsibilities of implementing the global goals, 17 SDGs, and curbing human trafficking has appointed a Zambian, H.E. Precious Phiri to head the Zambian affairs stating that all targets of the 17 SDGs is a must achieve stressing on the need for an inclusive approach to making the world a better place.

According to the letter of appointment dated 22nd May 2024, signed by the Global Chairman, Board of Trustees, World Sustainable Development Goals Organization, Chief Samson Adeosun, the Global Secretary-General, Advisory Council, H.E. Wajdi Aref Moukarim and the Global Founder, H.E. Emmanuel Huleji Daudu urged H. E. Precious Phiri to take her new office seriously to ensure that her quarter is contributed in impacting positively on lives within her scope of duty in Zambia.

Until her appointment, she was a trainer at the Zambia Development Agency, training small business owners, including youth, women, and persons with disabilities, in entrepreneurship and business management skills.

The SDGs are a set of global goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. They aim to address various social, economic, and environmental challenges faced by the world, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

Precious Phiri’s role as the Zambian Country Representative will involve raising awareness about the SDGs, promoting their implementation, and fostering partnerships between different stakeholders, including the government, civil society organizations, politicians, business tycoons and the private sector.

Similarly, Precious Phiri will be expected to work closely with the Zambian government, the Zambian United Nations body, and all of its agencies to align national policies and strategies with the SDGs. This collaboration will ensure that Zambia progresses towards sustainable development by integrating the goals into national agendas and decision-making processes.

By assuming this position, Her Excellency Precious Phiri has a significant responsibility to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in Zambia. The appointment reflects her expertise and dedication to the field, and it is hoped that her efforts, with the support of various stakeholders, will lead to positive and transformative change in the country.

The letter, giving details on the aims and objectives of the organization, disclosed that the international NGO is aimed at promoting development and economic goals in all the UN member nations.

The participation of youth in policy-making can have a significant impact on the political, economic, and social development of a country

The Minister for Youth Development, Dr Jamila Bio Ibrahim has urged the Federal Government to give Nigerian Youths the “actual power” to participate in decision making in the country.

Jamila made this appeal on Friday in Abuja while receiving a team of delegates from National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies(NIPSS), Kuru, Jos who paid her a courtesy visit in her office.

Jamila who stressed the importance of involving the Youths in decision making in the country, further explained that this goes beyond just empowering them to take charge of their lives and improve their access to resources.

“The potential of our generation will be visible once we are given the chance to be partners in building a better community.”

As an immediate response to this agenda, the Minister further stated that in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight point agenda which includes youth development, the Ministry of youth development has made a strong case for a 30% inclusion of youth in both policy and cabinet formation at all tiers of government.

According to her, this will give more than 60% youth population in the country a sense of belonging while reducing crime and restiveness among the youth.

While indicating the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with NIPPS,
Jamila Ibrahim also emphasized the concluded arrangements of the Ministry of Youth Development to visit all the youth centers across the country for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the challenges as well as look into how interventions can be made available to them.

She also announced the plans of the Ministry to host a National youth conference where the youths will have opportunities to make inputs for the youth roadmap development.

In his remarks, the Director General of the Institute, Professor Ayo Omotayo who led the team disclosed that series of research carried out by the Institute on Nigerian Youths revealed that nobody knows what the Youths really want.

According to him, the Institute is proposing a National Conference where the Youth will be asked what they want and what exactly the country can do for them.

Omotayo expressed worries that Nigerian Youth, being 60% of the population are not part of Policy making in the country.

According to the DG, the purpose of the visit was to look at the possible areas of collaboration between the Institute and the Ministry in the area of Policy making for the Youths, especially at the various sector of the economy where Youth Participation can be involved.

The DG who thanked Dr Jamila for showing her readiness to collaborate with the Institute, stressed the need to have Youth Development Roadmap, saying NIPPS has a platform where policies and strategies are tested.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Dr Dunoma Umar thanked the Director General and the entire Management of NIPPS for stretching the hands of fellowship to the Ministry.

NiMet To Host WIGOS Regional Centre

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Professor Charles Anosike has reiterated the agency’s commitment to hosting a WIGOS (WMO Integrated Global Observing System) regional center in Nigeria.

Professor Anosike was speaking in Abuja on Thursday, 30th May, 2024, while welcoming some participants at the four-day training workshop for Regional WIGOS Centres in WMO Regional Association (RA 1 – West Central Africa), to his office in Abuja.

“Thank you for the work you do. Our people are excited that the WIGOS workshop is being hosted in Nigeria. Having listened to the conversation on requirements for the centre to become operational, I am happy to announce that the process described fits into the work we are doing already, especially the Quality Management System (QMS) that NiMet already has in place”, Professor Anosike said.

The leader of the delegation, Mr Bernard Gomez, WMO Representative for North Central and West Africa appreciated Professor Anosike and NiMet for volunteering to host the WIGOS Centre in Nigeria. “I am delighted that NiMet is committing to do this. This is a community service for the African countries and others that will be benefiting from data generated at the centre. There is a team of experts from across Africa and the world to support NiMet with this”, Mr Gomez said.

ECOWAS Governmental Workshop for Validation of the Operational Framework of ECOWAS Standby Force concluded in Abuja

The ECOWAS Commission has organized the ECOWAS Governmental Workshop for the Validation of the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) Operational Framework, which started from May 29-31, 2024, in Ibeto hotel Abuja, Nigeria.

According to a media summary signed and made available to journalists by the ECOWAS programme officer IT and Communication, ECOWAS workshop marks the final phase of a comprehensive review process aimed at adapting the ESF Operational Framework to address contemporary security and political challenges in the region.

According to him, the workshop brings together representatives from the ECOWAS Commission, the European Union Delegation (EUD) in Abuja, GIZ, delegates from Member States, Technical Committee Experts (TCEs), resource persons, and experts from the military, police, and civilian sectors with extensive experience in Peace Support Operations (PSO), logistics, and counterterrorism, is to enhance the draft ESF Operational Framework, thereby building the capacity of the ESF to effectively respond to the complexities of the modern operational environment.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Pawoumothom Cyriaque Agnekethom, Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, on behalf of Amb. Abdel-Fatau Musah, PhD, Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace & Security of the ECOWAS Commission, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in this review, he emphasized that the current review is essential for updating the framework to reflect the latest trends and security threats in the region. “The review process, which began three years ago, has been thorough, and we are now presenting the revised document for governmental validation. The deployment of the ESF must consider the existing security threats in the region. I call for the continued support of member states’ experts for the upcoming review of the logistic concept and logistic management.”

Mrs. Celine Lhoste, speaking on behalf of the European Union, highlighted the significant support provided by the ECOWAS Peace and Security Architecture and Operations (EPSAO) regional program, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). “The EPSAO program, with a budget of €24 million, has supported various interventions aimed at strengthening ECOWAS mechanisms. These include capacity building for civilian, police, and military personnel, facilitating training, and ongoing acquisitions, despite the security context in the region.”

The Governmental Validation Workshop represents a significant milestone in enhancing the ESF’s operational readiness and adaptability. By incorporating feedback from experienced delegates and experts, ECOWAS aims to finalize an operational framework that is well-equipped to tackle the contemporary security landscape, ensuring peace and stability in the region.

This workshop is organized through the ECOWAS EPSAO project, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

DHQ commence investigation over attack on Troops in Aba

Troops of OP UDO KA deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Areas adjourning Aba metropolis in Abia State were attacked and sadly killed by terrorist of IPOB/ ESN. The troops deployed to enforce peace in the area and protect the citizens were massed attacked by the terrorist. The terrorist in 3 tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from builtup areas surrounding the checkpoint, sprang a surprise attack on the checkpoint.

According to Major General
Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, the attack sadly took the lives of 5 personnel of the armed forces killed in action.

The armed forces mourns the death of these troops as each and every soldier lost in battle is a terrible loss. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing concerning the attack.

Overall, it must be reinterated that the lifeline of the terrorist is the people and this situation is no exemption. Winning the war without the support of the people is close to impossible. The IPOB capitalised on this to perpetrate attacks on the troops. The situation leaves more to be desired.

Accordingly, it is absolutely imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against troops. The military would be fierce in its response. We would bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.

CG AUDI CALLS FOR RENEWED DETERMINATION TO COMBAT INSECURITY IN SCHOOLS AS SPECIAL FEMALE SQUAD MARKS 3RD ANNIVERSARY

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR has charged the Special Female Squad to redouble its effort in gathering actionable Intelligence to forestall any form of attack against Institutions and Schools across the federation.

According to a press release signed by CSC Babawale Afolabi, National Public Relations, the CG gave the charge as he recalled the commissioning of the SFS upon his assumption of office noting that the creation of the Special Female Squad is one of the robust approaches put in place to tackle the overwhelming challenges of kidnapping and abduction of School Children and their Teachers.

Dr Audi further noted that women have great passion for their children and this has informed the resilience and zest put in place by the Special Female Squad since its formation.

“When we came on board it was needful to develop a robust scheme capable of tackling the emerging threats against the educational sector. From the feasibility study and field survey carried out we discovered that many Schools in the federation were without perimeter fencing, security guards or mechanisms to forestall attacks and are thus vulnerable”.

“The Corps later took a pragmatic approach to commission an all Female Squad which was saddled with the responsibility of Protecting both the Students, Teachers and School environment from possible attacks”.

Operationally, the Special Female Squad (SFS) was further commissioned in all the 36 States of the Federation and FCT thereby foiling over 48 kidnap attempts and attacks against Students and Teachers across the board”.

Several organizations and establishments have commended the tact fullness of the SFS as they engage in Training and Sensitization Programs on Personal Security and Protection Techniques across Schools; they have also extended their activities by reaching out to the less privileged, visiting the Pediatric Ward, Postnatal ward, neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU) Male and Female Ward to provide Moral and logistics support.

The CG said the achievements of the Special Female Squad have continued to wax stronger in the discharge of its duties and responsibilities.

As a means of giving back to society, the SFS conducted Community Services in several communities, the following Hospitals were also visited to distribute relief materials: the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Wise General Hospital, National Hospital and Garik General Hospital. Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council Secondary School Sheda, Gadorasko Primary School Garik, Abuja.

“In light of the above, as the Corps mark the 3rd Anniversary of the Commissioning of Special Female Squad across the nation I charge the officers and men to be more focused, diligent and well-determined to end Insecurity in schools even as you partner and collaborate with other security agencies in the service to the nation.
