In a rare gesture of gratitude and political solidarity, the Forum of Elected Former Councillors in Jigawa State has honoured the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, with an Award of Excellence in Leadership.
The ceremony, which took place at the Minister’s Kano residence on Friday, brought together a delegation of former grassroots lawmakers who served during Badaru’s time as Governor of Jigawa State. The forum commended him for his exemplary service, particularly highlighting his landmark decision to settle all outstanding severance allowances owed to local government councillors from as far back as 1999 through to 2023 a feat no previous administration had accomplished.
Presenting the award, Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustafá Isyaku Sholy, lauded Badaru’s dedication to inclusive governance and his legacy of fairness, respect, and administrative excellence.
He described the former Governor’s leadership as a turning point for many local leaders who had long felt neglected.
“This recognition is not just about financial entitlements,” Sholy said. “It is about restoring dignity to the grassroots political class and recognizing their contribution to democratic governance. His Excellency set a new standard, and we remain eternally grateful.”
In a show of political allegiance, the Forum pledged unwavering support for Badaru in all his current and future endeavours, particularly in his role as the nation’s Defence Minister.
Also present at the event were Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Jallo, Member representing Hadejia Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Gumel, former Chairman of Gumel Local Government, among other dignitaries.
