The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has been named the recipient of the Outstanding Performance in Public Service Award at the prestigious African Iconic Women Recognition Awards 2025.
The award, which celebrates exceptional female leaders across the continent, recognized Engr. Coker-Odusote for her visionary and transformational leadership in advancing Nigeria’s digital identity ecosystem.
Organizers of the award commended her for steering the NIMC towards excellence and making it a prominent player in Africa’s identity management landscape.
Since assuming office, Engr. Coker-Odusote has overseen remarkable strides at NIMC, including a substantial rise in National Identification Number (NIN) enrollments, the enhancement of a world-class identity database, and the successful implementation of a 25/35% salary adjustment for staff part of her broader commitment to improved staff welfare and institutional reform.
Key highlights of her tenure include enhanced human capacity development, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and ongoing efforts in data harmonization to streamline identity services nationwide. These milestones are anchored in her ambitious 5-point agenda, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Mandate, which continues to drive innovation and growth within the Commission.
As part of its digital transformation agenda, NIMC also urges Nigerians to utilize the NIN Authentication (NINAuth) service a secure and user-controlled platform designed to simplify identity verification, safeguard personal data, and improve interactions with government agencies.
“The introduction of NINAuth empowers citizens to control how and when their data is shared, reducing the risk of identity theft and ensuring seamless public service delivery,” the Commission noted.
