In a remarkable recognition of his dedication to education and national development, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has been appointed as the Honorary Ambassador of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO).

The conferment was announced during a courtesy visit by the university’s delegation to Dr. Shehu’s office in Abuja on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The Vice Chancellor of IUO, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, led the delegation, describing the Honorary Ambassador title as a distinguished position reserved for individuals who exemplify educational excellence and unwavering commitment to societal progress.

He lauded Dr. Shehu’s stellar achievements as a technocrat and a distinguished alumnus of the institution.

“After a rigorous due diligence process, the university found you to be most deserving of this honor. As Honorary Ambassador, you are tasked with promoting and projecting the image of the university while advancing its interests,” Prof. Ezemonye said.

Responding to the honor, Dr. Shehu expressed profound gratitude to the university’s management and staff, commending their steadfast commitment to upholding academic excellence over the years.

He emphasized the transformative power of education and the pivotal role institutions like IUO play in shaping society.

“The most important contribution we can make to society is the impartation of knowledge. If the visionary foundations laid by our forefathers had been sustained, many of the challenges we face today would not exist,” Dr. Shehu remarked.

He also acknowledged the foresight of IUO’s founding fathers, who established the university 25 years ago, and praised the institution’s impressive growth and resilience. “It is truly commendable that despite the challenges facing higher education in Nigeria, Igbinedion University has maintained its high standards and continues to transform lives,” he added.

Dr. Shehu pledged to use his new role to further the interests of the university. “I assure you of my unwavering commitment to support, market, and project the image of this great institution wherever I am,” he promised.

The event also featured glowing tributes from other members of the delegation, including Prof. Deborah Omotsefe Odejimi, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, and Prof. Femi Olufunmilade, who described Dr. Shehu as a humble, amiable, and detribalized leader.
