The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has urged stakeholders to create platforms that empower, employ, and protect young Nigerians, as part of the Federal Government’s commitment to youth development.

Speaking in Abuja during a visit by the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-radicalization Programmes (NIYEEDEP) delegation, led by Comrade Kennedy Iyere, Olawande emphasized the need to leverage technology and renewable energy to drive youth-led innovation.

He highlighted the Tinubu administration’s dedication to collaborating with initiatives like NIYEEDEP to address the challenges facing Nigerian youth.

“I am confident in your team’s ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently to tackle the pressing issues confronting young people. However, I urge you to focus on actionable steps rather than prolonged discussions, as empowering youth early is critical to preventing societal problems,” Olawande stated.

In his remarks, Comrade Kennedy Iyere described Nigeria’s youth population as the nation’s most significant asset, even surpassing its oil resources.

He expressed concern over youth exclusion, noting its potential to foster frustration and alienation, which could lead to negative consequences.

“To harness the potential of our youth for national development, it is essential to engage them constructively through collaborative programmes and strategic recruitment into various sectors. This approach will ensure they become integral stakeholders in Nigeria’s future, fostering stability and growth,” Iyere said.

He also acknowledged the support of the American Grant Writers Association in fundraising for youth engagement initiatives. According to Iyere, this partnership aims to secure resources to channel youth energy into productive activities.
