The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has called for a collective approach to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria’s youth.
Speaking during a meeting with the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) delegation, led by Dr. Onyeche Agbiti Douglas, in Abuja, the Minister outlined a vision for sustainable solutions that empower young people through skills development and entrepreneurship.
Comrade Olawande emphasized the importance of involving youth in leadership and community roles, addressing the marginalization of informal youth in favor of their formal counterparts.
“It is crucial to involve young people in leadership and community roles. We need to address the issue of informal youth being overlooked in favor of their formal counterparts,” he stated.
He urged political and societal entities to prioritize youth empowerment and called on international organizations such as UNESCO and UNDP to support initiatives aimed at securing a brighter future for Nigerian youth.
“There is a pressing need for strategic partnerships that focus on productive and meaningful outcomes instead of superficial projects. We will overcome budgetary constraints to effectively fund youth-oriented initiatives,” the Minister affirmed.
The meeting aimed to foster collaboration among government officials, NGOs, and community leaders to create a sustainable environment for young people to thrive.

Dr. Onyeche Agbiti-Douglas, NYFF’s team leader, reiterated the fund’s commitment to engaging Nigerian youth in governance and leadership.
She highlighted ongoing and upcoming initiatives designed to empower youth at local, national, and international levels.
Dr. Agbiti-Douglas encouraged youth to participate in discussions on policy, tax reforms, and legislative bills, ensuring they are well-informed and actively involved in policy implementation.
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development continues to seek strategic partnerships to address challenges and create opportunities for the nation’s youth.
