Matawalle Commends Guards Brigade for Exceptional Service at WASA 2024

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has lauded the Guards Brigade for its dedication and exceptional service in ensuring the security of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.

Speaking at the 2024 West African Social Activity (WASA), held in Abuja on Sunday, Matawalle commended the officers and personnel of the Brigade for their proactive approach in addressing security threats, safeguarding the Presidency, and protecting citizens, visitors, and diplomats.

“Your loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication in executing your Presidential security duties, coordinating ceremonial parades, and managing operational challenges are commendable,” the Minister stated.

He urged the Brigade to continue embodying compassion and excellence in their operations.

The Minister also praised the WASA event for its role in promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage, noting that the evening’s activities highlighted the nation’s rich diversity.
“The traditional dances and local delicacies on display tonight not only enhance our appreciation of our diverse cultures but also play a crucial role in preserving our cultural heritage and distinct identity,” he added.

Matawalle urged the Brigade to remain steadfast in meeting the challenges of their responsibilities and ensuring that the Nigerian Armed Forces’ reputation continues to soar.

Earlier, Major General Adebisi Onosayan, Commander of the Guards Brigade, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Brigade’s operations, training, and welfare.

He also acknowledged the guidance and support provided by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff.

“We pledge our unwavering loyalty and readiness to contribute effectively to the security of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings,” Onosayan assured.

The Commander emphasized that WASA is a platform to showcase the cultural diversity and heritage of Nigeria in a relaxed atmosphere.
“This event celebrates our social diversity, values, beliefs, and rich traditions through cultural dances, cuisines, languages, and attire,” he stated.

The 2024 WASA event, which marked the Brigade’s Grand Finale, featured vibrant performances, traditional delicacies, and a display of Nigeria’s ethnic richness, bringing together officers, personnel, and their families in a spirit of unity and celebration.
