In a bold display of solidarity and unwavering dedication to the safety of his people, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, made a triumphant return to Zamfara State on Friday, December 20, 2024.
In a statement by Sani Habib, media office of Matawalle disclosed that the former governor’s decision to travel by road instead of air resonated deeply with over 50,000 supporters, who lined the streets to celebrate his efforts in combating insecurity across the state.
Dr. Matawalle’s journey along the Funtua-Sokoto Highway was not just symbolic but strategic. His presence was a morale booster for troops stationed along the route, reinforcing their commitment to securing the region.
Commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their tireless dedication, the Minister highlighted the significant progress made in reducing kidnappings and dismantling bandit networks.
“I am immensely proud of the sacrifices our soldiers are making to protect our citizens. Their bravery and swift responses have restored hope to communities once living in fear,” Dr. Matawalle remarked during the journey.
Habib added that as his convoy approached Yankara, the border town between Zamfara and Katsina States, thousands of APC supporters, including young men and women, thronged the streets, singing songs of praise in Hausa.
Their chants celebrated the successes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and Dr. Matawalle’s pivotal role in restoring security.
The atmosphere in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, was electric. Streets came alive with celebrations as the people expressed renewed optimism under Dr. Matawalle’s leadership at the federal level.
Along his route, he paused at multiple locations to sympathize with victims of past security challenges, reaffirming his steadfast commitment to their welfare and recovery.
Unlike many politically charged events, Dr. Matawalle’s homecoming was marked by peace and order, with no reported incidents of harassment or unrest.
Habib noted the conspicuous absence of the state governor, Dauda Lawal, who reportedly left the state upon learning of the Minister’s visit.
Dr. Matawalle’s return to Zamfara symbolizes hope and the promise of a safer future.
His leadership underscores the importance of collaboration between federal and state governments in addressing critical security issues.
For many residents, the Minister’s visit was a reminder of what focused leadership can achieve.
One supporter aptly captured the sentiment of the day: “Dr. Matawalle is not just a leader; he is a beacon of hope for Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole.”
