The Defence Headquarters has dismissed online reports alleging the arrival of a contingent of French soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State, purportedly to establish a French military base in Northeast Nigeria.

In a statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria categorically described the reports as “fake, totally false, and mischievous.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa CFR, had earlier addressed similar claims in various media engagements, debunking such speculations and assuring the public of the military’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The Defence Headquarters has urged the general public to disregard the rumors, describing them as baseless fabrications by mischief makers.

The statement further reassured Nigerians that the Armed Forces will continue to execute its constitutional duties with professionalism, ensuring the nation’s territorial integrity is maintained.

For verified updates, the public is encouraged to rely on official communications from the Defence Headquarters.
