As part of efforts to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has successfully trained 100 Ebonyi youths in modern electrical installation methods.

The 5-day empowerment program, held from November 26-29, 2024, at Remeritona Hotel and Suites, Abakaliki, focused on equipping participants with cutting-edge skills to boost employability, create wealth, and reduce poverty.

The intensive training covered advanced techniques in electrical wiring, appliance repair, solar power installation, electrical panel maintenance, safety inspections, and system upgrades.

At the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by Mr. Ibrahim Baba Dauda, Coordinating Director of Finance and Accounts, emphasized the agency’s commitment to fostering economic growth through skill acquisition and job creation.

“By prioritizing skill development, we are addressing critical industry demands while ensuring a brighter future for our youths,” Mr. Halilu stated.

“The building construction sector is experiencing significant growth, necessitating a highly skilled electrical workforce. This training in Ebonyi is the third in the South-East zone, following similar initiatives in Anambra and Imo states.”

The program aligns with President Tinubu’s 8-point agenda, focusing on poverty eradication, job creation, economic growth, and improved access to opportunities.

According to Halilu, the training not only equips participants for industry demands but also fosters safety compliance, energy efficiency, technological advancement, and global competitiveness.

Halilu urged them to maximize the tools and skills acquired, cautioning against selling the kits.

“The skills you have gained will define your career and identity far beyond any temporary financial gains,” he noted.

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, represented by the Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Hon. Elija Okwu Oko Udu, applauded the initiative as a testament to the state’s commitment to youth empowerment.

“This training underscores our vision of creating opportunities for every Ebonyi youth to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. It’s an investment in their potential to innovate and inspire,” he said.

Participants received comprehensive startup kits, including state-of-the-art tools such as face shields, safety goggles, cordless drills, and conduit benders, among others.
The empowerment program aims to set participants on a path of sustainable career growth, equipping them to become industry leaders and trainers in their communities.
