Matawalle Briefs President Tinubu on North-West Security Gains, Commends Military for Decisive Action

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the latest security developments in the North-West, following his operational tours to Sokoto State.

The briefing outlined the significant achievements of the Nigerian Military in combating banditry and terrorism in the region, showcasing the government’s continued commitment to restoring peace.

During his briefing, Dr. Matawalle praised the military’s efforts, highlighting their professionalism and resilience in tackling insurgency.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have made remarkable progress in pushing back criminal elements. Their dedication to the security of our country is commendable and unwavering,” Matawalle stated.

He commended President Tinubu’s administration for its steady support in providing the necessary resources to maintain military efficiency.

The Minister underscored the government’s focus on strengthening the capacity of the Nigerian Air Force as a key element in the strategic fight against insecurity in the region.

Dr. Matawalle’s operational tour to Sokoto, alongside the Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs, witnessed notable victories, including the elimination of notorious bandit leaders such as Halilu Buzu Sububu. This accomplishment signals a strong message that the Nigerian government is determined to rid the North-West of bandits and terrorists.

As part of his briefing, the Defence Minister urged the citizens of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states to remain supportive of the ongoing military operations and cooperate with security forces to ensure sustained progress in the fight against insecurity.

President Tinubu, in response, expressed satisfaction with the military’s renewed vigor and progress.
