As PUL turns 60, President-Elect Rallies Unionists

On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) this Monday, September 30, the President-Elect, Julius Kanubah, has made a passionate plead to journalists and media workers to renew their commitment and loyalty to the PUL and the practice of professional, responsible, ethical journalism.

According to a statement signed by the President-Elect
Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Julius Kanubah, he believes when journalists are loyal to the PUL as a fraternity and institution of public information and integrity, the professional solidarity that binds them together will never be compromised or sacrificed for selfish ends. 

The PUL President-Elect wants journalists, media and communication workers to deeply reflect over the current state of the PUL with the view to advancing constructive suggestions to move the PUL and journalism forward.

In our reflection, Kanubah notes, journalists and media workers must consider the imperative of realizing improved working condition and professional integrity in the service of journalism and media in Liberia.

In a press release, Kanubah pledged that the newly elected leadership will work collectively to bring back credibility, integrity and dignity to the PUL through the implementation of a well-defined agenda, focusing on accountable leadership; impartial advocacy; construction of the PUL Headquarters; support for women in journalism; inclusive and sustainable media development; and the formation of media hubs in the Counties for journalists.

Kanubah observed that the Union’s 60th anniversary could not have come at an important time as the PUL is in the process of a historical democratic transition after nearly two years of leadership paralysis.

President-Elect Kanubah assured that the PUL new leadership team is working with the Interim Committee (IC) to induct the democratically elected officers in keeping with the Ruling of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The IC, led by former PUL President Peter Quaqua, must be commended for the high-level of integrity, diligence, and commitment demonstrated in ensuring that a legitimate leadership is elected and installed to restore the PUL.

The Quaqua led IC comprises some of the best moral guardians of the media and society, namely, Elizabeth Hoff, James Kiazolu, Frank Sainworla, Winston Monboe, Teah Doegmah, Weade Kobbah-Boley, Malcolm Joseph, Helen Nah-Sammie, Peter Kahler, and Jacob Parley.
