SPPG2023: Nigerians should begin to realize that their right as citizens is more than the office of the President- Dr. Adebamiji Oluniyi

By Emmanuel Daudu

The CEO, MD Priscone Built Nigeria Ltd, Dr. Adebamiji Oluniyi, has called on Nigerians to realize that their sundry status quo as citizens is more valuable and powerful than the office of the President.
“Until Nigerians realize this and understand it this way, we may not get it right. Many Nigerians believe the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is higher than the rights of the citizen. This has over the years been the brainwashed mentality used on Nigerians and of course, it is not the truth. The truth remains that the right of a citizen is higher than the office of the President. The Office or rights of the common man selling Kolanut by the roadside is higher than the office of the President of any given country and when we know this, the narrative will change, the quagmire will end and we’ll be able to know that first of all, Citizens first before the Executives.”

Dr. Adebamiji Oluniyi made the eye-opening statement while speaking with journalists on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of the 2023 class of the School of Politics, Policy & Governance at the National Universities Commission Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.

The School of Politics, Policy & Governance (SPPG), as part of the Values pillar of the FixPolitics initiative, has the goal of transforming politics in Nigeria and the rest of Africa, by building a massive base and pipeline of a new value-based and disruptive thinking political class with the requisite knowledge and skills to lead effectively.

The SPPG is integral to the fulfillment of the #FixPolitics mission to elevate the Office of the Citizen to its rightful place in our nation and develop a political class of servant leaders.

Adebamiji, while speaking charged Nigerians to enroll in the School of Politics, Policy & Governance, SPPG, as a way of rebranding by breeding new kind of leaders in our political and economic space in Nigeria and Africa at large.
“Today, I’m graduating from the School of Politics, Policy and Governance as a thought co-hot of The SPPG and it is a privilege and honor because it’s an extensive and intensive 10 months of class activities every day three hours and a rigorous one considering the fact that I am a busy CEO combine with work schedule and school, it has taken the grace of God, lots of support from my family, friends, associates for there understanding.

“Today, Nigeria as a country we are all yearning for good leadership and this resonates across all the African soil.
Lack of good leadership is our problem and what the School of Politics, Policy and Governance, SPPG, has done is to develop, and equip leaders that can lead better in terms of character, competence, and capacity to be able to meet up with the demands of the global world which is changing rapidly, full of uncertainties, dynamic and also innovative.”

In his advice to Nigerian leaders, he has this to say, “Today leaders that lead us lead us without Inclusivity. In our constitution, you and I know that our imprint is not in the present constitution that we are running. Instead of working on that constitution, we keep amending it, which will take us nowhere. You can not run my house for me when I am not there. It is not done. You can not be crying more than the bereaved. The political elites have not done so well in the fact that they don’t include inclusivity in all they are doing. What I mean is, that young people should be included in governance, women, the physically challenged, the old, less privileged in society, all should be included in governance.

It is when we harmonize all these people far and wide, educated, exposed, knowledgeable, and having capacity, character, having empathic leadership skills that growth is certain.

“My advice for Nigerians is to keep hope alive because every country in Africa is looking up to Nigeria, yes! That’s the truth. If Nigeria fails, other African countries are doomed. So, we Nigerians must keep hope alive because there is always light at the end of the tunnel”, Adebamiji added.
