Kebbi State Governor Commended by World Sustainable Development Goals Organization-Nigeria for New 75,000 Naira Minimum Wage Initiative

In a landmark step towards economic equity, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has introduced a minimum wage of 75,000 Naira for workers, a move that has drawn commendation from Sani Ibrahim Yauri, a member of the National Board of Trustees of the World Sustainable Development Goals Organization-Nigeria.

The increased minimum wage reflects Governor Idris’s commitment to improving living standards for citizens and supporting sustainable economic development across the state.

On behalf of the organization,  Sani praised Governor Idris for his decisive action, describing it as “a testament to humanitarian leadership.”

He emphasized that the higher minimum wage will empower workers to meet basic needs, alleviating poverty and fostering a more productive workforce.

“Governor Idris has displayed remarkable dedication to the welfare of ordinary citizens, ensuring they are not left behind in the state’s development progress,” he remarked.

He noted that fair wages play a pivotal role in boosting demand within local economies, which can, in turn, drive business growth, job creation, and economic resilience.

The significance of this wage increase extends beyond Kebbi, echoing a global trend where minimum wage laws address socio-economic inequalities.

By setting a new wage standard, Governor Idris joins international leaders who have used such policies to combat poverty and promote equitable growth, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations.

The member,  National Board of Trustees, World Sustainable Development Goals Organization-Nigeria, Sani Ibrahim (Nr, MNWCN) has congratulated the newly appointed minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction-State, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu on his recent appointment.

The Member, National Board of Trustees, Sani Ibrahim  Yauri made the statement  in a congratulatory message he signed today 24th of October, 2024 and made  available to newsmen in Abuja following the announcement of his appointment by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  His Excellency,  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

According to him, “In an era where the challenges of poverty and humanitarian crises are more pronounced than ever, the appointment of capable leaders to key positions is crucial for driving positive change. Recently, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu was appointed as Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction-State, an announcement that has fostered hope and optimism among many stakeholders invested in sustainable development.

“To understand the enormity of the task ahead, it is important to scrutinise the current state of humanitarian issues and poverty in Nigeria. According to the World Bank, approximately 40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line, which translates to roughly 83 million people struggling to meet their basic needs. The challenges are multi-faceted: from economic instability to health crises and natural disasters, these elements create a perfect storm that devastates the lives of ordinary citizens. The need for effective leadership to navigate these tumultuous waters can not be overstated; it is through decisive action and visionary strategies that a country can hope to alleviate the suffering of its people.

The SDGs are a collection of 17 global goals designed to address various social, economic, and environmental issues. Goal 1 aims to end poverty in all its forms everywhere, and Tanko’s focus on poverty reduction is not only timely—it is also essential for achieving broader sustainable development. Leadership that is informed by clear objectives and strategies can catalyse significant change.

While wishing him well in his new office, Sani cautioned him to understand  that leadership is about more than just setting goals; it involves fostering collaboration among various stakeholders.”In tackling humanitarian issues and poverty, no single entity can succeed in isolation. Nigerian Armed Forces Intensify Military Operations, Strike Significant Blows Against Insurgency and Terrorism

In a determined effort to maintain peace and stability, the Nigerian Armed Forces have significantly advanced in their ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across various regions of the country.

This week’s operations have dealt considerable blows to terrorist factions, dismantling their strategic objectives and weakening their operational capabilities.

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military has made significant strides in neutralizing insurgent forces.

“The troops are not only denying these terrorists the ability to carry out their goals but are also finding innovative ways to adapt to operational challenges. Flexibility and operational innovation remain key elements of these successes,” the statement read.

He stated that the operations in the South East continue to yield positive results.

In a daring sting operation, troops from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Orsu arrested a key figure within the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The suspect, identified as Pius Iguh, a founding leader of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Orsu, Imo State, is now in custody, marking a major victory for the military in curbing IPOB’s activities.

In a related operation, troops stationed at FOB Amaruku in Abia State successfully apprehended Emmanuel Onwugu, another prominent IPOB commander, in Mbano Local Government Area.

These arrests are critical in disrupting IPOB’s chain of command and their militant activities.

In a further display of force, a joint military-security operation in Abia State led to the capture of notorious cult leader Ifeanyi Rock along with 10 of his combatants in Arochukwu. The elimination of such threats continues to bolster efforts to restore peace in the region.

Additionally, during the week under review, troops recorded significant victories on various fronts:
140 terrorists were neutralized, and 135 individuals involved in various criminal activities were arrested.

He further disclosed that 76 kidnapped hostages were rescued, and 18 oil thieves were apprehended.

Troops also thwarted oil theft attempts worth over N1.75 billion in the South-South region.

The military operations also led to the recovery of a vast cache of weapons and ammunition, further weakening the operational strength of terrorist groups. Among the recovered items were:

241 assorted weapons, including 141 AK-47 rifles, a PKT gun, and 17 fabricated rifles.

Others include 3,254 rounds of ammunition, consisting of various calibers of bullets, alongside vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and over N79 million in cash.

Furthermore, in the Niger Delta region, troops discovered and destroyed multiple illegal refining sites and equipment used for oil theft, recovering over 1.1 million liters of stolen crude oil and 557,210 liters of illegally refined AGO (diesel).

The military assured the public that they remain steadfast in their mission to eliminate terrorism and restore peace across Nigeria.

“We will defeat the terrorists on the battlefield and in their hiding places,” Major General Buba emphasized, urging citizens to view themselves as partners in this national security effort.

As the military presses forward, they call on Nigerians to remain vigilant and refrain from providing any support direct or indirect to terrorist activities, reminding the public that their collaboration is crucial in extinguishing the flames of terrorism.

President Tinubu Appoints Comrade Ayodele Olawande as Minister of Youth Development

Matawalle Briefs President Tinubu on North-West Security Gains, Commends Military for Decisive Action

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the latest security developments in the North-West, following his operational tours to Sokoto State.

The briefing outlined the significant achievements of the Nigerian Military in combating banditry and terrorism in the region, showcasing the government’s continued commitment to restoring peace.

During his briefing, Dr. Matawalle praised the military’s efforts, highlighting their professionalism and resilience in tackling insurgency.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have made remarkable progress in pushing back criminal elements. Their dedication to the security of our country is commendable and unwavering,” Matawalle stated.

He commended President Tinubu’s administration for its steady support in providing the necessary resources to maintain military efficiency.

The Minister underscored the government’s focus on strengthening the capacity of the Nigerian Air Force as a key element in the strategic fight against insecurity in the region.

Defence Minister Engages Plateau Stakeholders on Security, Commends Troops for Ongoing Efforts

In a bid to address ongoing security concerns in Plateau State, the Honourable Minister of Defence, H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, held a high-level meeting with traditional rulers, local government officials, security agencies, and key community leaders.

The dialogue, which took place in Jos, focused on restoring peace in troubled areas like Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, Wase, and Bassa Local Government Areas.

Minister Badaru expressed satisfaction with the relative peace being experienced in the state but urged stakeholders to ensure its long-term sustainability.

He stressed the need for peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders, calling on both groups to avoid resorting to violence.

He acknowledged the retrieval of arms, ammunition, and the dismantling of local arms production hubs as major achievements in recent months.

“I am here on behalf of President Tinubu to personally thank you for your hard work and dedication to restoring peace in Plateau State,” the Minister said.

He called on the officers to double down on their efforts, encouraging them to remain focused on ending insecurity in the region.

“Are you ready to finish the fight against insecurity in Plateau?” Minister Badaru asked the assembled troops, reaffirming his confidence in their ability to deliver.

Representing the Plateau State Government, Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Special Adviser on Security and Homeland Safety, Brig. Gen. Gakji Shipi, lauded the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government, local leaders, and security agencies.
