“Our candidates should go out there and participate in elections, INEC recognizes party not individuals “-APM National Chairman tells candidates as INEC ignores list

…Faction APM  urges Candidates to participate in elections as candidates

The  National Chairman of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bagana has urged candidates of the party to see themselves as the rightful party candidates irrespective of the challenges the faction is going through in the hands of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Banana also stated that INEC recognizes parties and not individuals so also the law.
” Feel free to participate in the elections as the lawful candidates of the party, APM, that you all are. The rest would be handled in the court”.

The National Chairman of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Alhaji Muhammed Musa Bagana made this known on Friday in a press statement made available to journalists.

Below is the full text of his address.

“My fellow compatriots and esteemed members of our dear party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM). I am greatly honoured to be elected by your good selves to lead this party as the National Chairman.

Since my election and assumption of office in August, 2022, the party has been bedeviled by unnecessary challenges arising from self- centredness of some members of the party who intentionally positioned themselves to destroy the party in collaboration with agencies of government, to the detriment of our collective interests,  the desires, aspirations and ambitions of citizens who identified our party as a credible political platform to engage with the democratic process and to also contest elections. It became a necessary battle to fight.

First to ensure that our leadership and candidates who came up through the democratic process of election are recognized by INEC  and  saving the soul of the party, because we have the legal instrument which is a Federal High Court Judgement that has not been stayed execution by any court of competent jurisdiction, including the Court of Appeal.

It is really disheartening and embarrassing that a  regulatory agency like INEC could flaunt, disobey and disregard court order with impunity in a democratic dispensation. Where then lies the future of democracy in our country?

Be that as it may, I must sincerely thank all of you for your continuous support, resilience and loyalty to the party and tol the leadership of the party at all levels.

The 2023 general elections is here. We have candidates contesting as President, Senators, Federal House Representatives, Governor’s and State Houses of Assembly. Vote them into their respective offices of contest to safeguard your party from being deregistered.

While it is a pity that as our candidates you could not put in all your best in the campaigns to gather votes for yourselves because of the court cases and disobedience of court order by INEC orchestrated by the deliberate effort of some members and their cohorts to dis-stabilize the party which resulted into the non  inclusion of your names on the INEC portal and litigations to cause unnecessary delays,  I URGE  ALL CANDIDATES TO GO INTO THE ELECTIONS SINCE IT IS THE PARTY LOGO THAT WOULD BE ON THE BALLOT PAPER NOT THE FACES OF INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES. FURTHERMORE, I WISH TO INFORM YOU THAT THE PARTY LEADERSHIP STANDS WITH YOU IN THIS CHALLENGING PERIOD AND ARE WELL GUIDED BY LEGAL LUMINARIES ON EACH STEP TAKEN TOWARDS ACHIEVING SUCCESS. BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE ELECTIONS.  LET ME ALSO ADD, THAT  EVERY SUCCESS COMES THROUGH A ROUGH ROAD; AS BEAUTIFUL AS ROSES ARE, YOU CANNOT PLUCK ANY WITHOUT PASSING THROUGH A THORN; AND AS SWEET AS HONEY IS, YOU MUST BE STUNG BY A HONEY BEE TO GET TO THE HONEY COMB. I assure you that the leadership is on your matter regardless of whether your name is on INEC portal or not, whether elections are held or not. Truth and justice must prevail.

Election is a process that has series of activities before, during and after the conduct, therefore, let not your hearts be troubled. Go into the elections with vigour, tenacity, courage and commitment of hope for victory.

Like I earlier said. 2023 elections are here. It is expected that as a party, we have a direction. Indeed it is true. However, the peculiarity  of our party during this election is such that requires dynamism and strategic thinking in order to be relevant. As the National Chairman of our great party, I am bound to uphold the motto of our party which is  INTEGRITY, SACRIFICE, SERVICE. In consultation with my team therefore, we decided that it is important that we remain relevant in the political space of this country, not only at the national level, but also in our respective states. We have therefore resolved that EVERY STATE SHOULD ACT ACCORDING TO THE POLITICAL PECULIARITY IN THEIR STATE. RECOGNISING THAT POLITICS IS LOCAL

The 2023 general election has taken a different dimension from the usual language in our political parlance  ‘top to bottom’. The political awareness, knowledge and education today supercedes that of yesteryears. We therefore considered various variables that would promote the motto of our party to arrive at the resolution

I crave your indulgence therefore,  to accept our decision as leaders you have entrusted your loyalty to and who are committed to always serving your interest in the best of their human  abilities. We enjoin you to work in harmony with one another and as a team in your respective states to ensure that you uphold the integrity of our party in all your alliances, negotiations, collaborations, cooperations, partnerships and networking for a peaceful election at all levels.

CLEEN Foundation Launches 2023 Election Security Support Centre

By Emmanuel Daudu

In less than 24 hours, the Nation will decide through the ballot. Nigeria will hold its seventh general elections in the democratic era with the build-up to the polls proving ominous to CLEEN Foundation are Election Security.

Citizens will go all out to make their various choices in the Presidential election. It is against this backdrop that CLEEN Foundation have launched the Election Security Support Centre (ESSC) to monitor the conduct of security agencies throughout the entire process.

The Executive Director, CLEEN Foundation, Gad Peter, during the launching today Friday 24th February 2023 at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, stated that the short-term Election Security Support Centre has also deployed observers in 109 Senatorial Zones across the country.
‘The observers are representatives of civil society organizations, independent experts, women, and youth as well as professionals from various fields. The objectives of the Centre are to (a) provide an accurate and impartial assessment of the electoral process, including the degree to which the conduct of security agencies meets standards for democratic elections; (b) offer recommendations for improvement of future elections security based on the findings; and (c) demonstrate CLEEN’s solidarity and support towards consolidation of democracy, peace, stability and development in Nigeria.

“Gentlemen, as part of its observation process, CLEEN Foundation will engage with various stakeholders as well as observe the polling process from this Centre. We expect to receive some diplomatic and local analysts at different points. Based on the findings, CLEEN Foundation will issue its preliminary statement on the electoral process on 27 February 2023 in Abuja. Our mandate is to observe and assess the pre-election period, the conduct of security agencies and activities on polling day, and the post-election period. Throughout, we will consider all factors relating to the security of the electoral process. We will assess whether the elections are conducted according to the standards for democratic elections to which Nigeria has committed itself. We will be objective, independent, and impartial as we undertake this assessment and conduct our duties.

“Just a few weeks ago; CLEEN Foundation launched its traditional Election Security Threats Assessment which we believe will embrace the mitigations we have deployed with tactical commanders at different levels in the build-up to the elections. We want to urge citizens to go about exercising their franchise peacefully without molestation. We are certain, the public’s confidence in the credibility of the polls is growing, which is likely to bolster voter turnout. Following amendments to electoral laws, the electoral commission introduced several changes to the voting system, the most significant of which is that polling stations will transmit ballots electronically to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, in real-time. Despite lingering doubts about connectivity in remote parts of the country, many Nigerians believe these innovations will be helpful in preventing anyone from altering results manually at polling stations or state collation centers, as poll workers colluding with party agents and thugs had done in the past.

“Nigerian security agencies must improve their intelligence-gathering capabilities. No gainsaying that the Nigerian Police Force has done extremely well in the preparations for the elections. However, the Force must rise to the occasion and stop the various attacks on its personnel and infrastructure in some parts of the county. The continued raids on police stations and apparent anonymity of the gunmen are a test of the efficacy of Nigeria’s security intelligence and ability to tackle criminality before, during, and after the elections. Through intelligence gathering, fortified security posts, and a multi-security framework, Nigeria’s security agencies must now save themselves to secure the elections and the nation.

“We, however, applaud the conduct of security and law enforcement agencies during the campaign season. It is worthy of note that during the party campaigns, security and law enforcement personnel were present and conducted themselves professionally. We urge security agencies and anti-corruption agencies to continue to follow due process and the rule of law as we move closer to the general elections on the 25th of February 2023. Although the conduct of party campaigns across the states were laudable, some party campaigns have been marred by skirmish in states like Lagos, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers where violent incidences have been reported especially political related killings. The most recent being the senatorial candidate in Enugu East geo-political zone which we call on the police to rise up to the occasion to bring the perpetrators to book. We urge INEC, the politicians and political stakeholders to always shun electoral violence, vote trading and also be fair, unbiased and objective in the discharge of their duties while we approach the elections. we still express unreserved worries over the recurring but unhealthy and divisive verbal attacks and hate speeches which manifest in the utterances of politicians, political supporters, political party leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, which if not holistically addressed may pose grievous challenges to the resulting process, peaceful-coexistence, unity and diversity of our beloved nation.

‘The Foundation recommends that key actors in the electoral processes, particularly INEC, political parties, security agents, mass media, and CSOs, should pay increased attention to the identified risk factors to tackle them headlong through the various duty bearers. The early warning signs identified in the Election Security Threat Assessment report should be seen as a priority by appropriate authorities to take early action. Synergy among these agencies is imperative to the peaceful outcomes of the elections. We, therefore, call on relevant stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of all security agents and essential workers/ adhoc staff on election duties to avoid unintended outcomes. The key stakeholders in the South-East should activate their diplomatic channels to persuade all groups in the region to allow for a peaceful election process.

‘Let me conclude by saying that ‘Elections are not worth the blood of any citizen’ there is a need to strengthen and promote peaceful coexistence amongst the diverse ethnoreligious and political groups in Nigeria. This would help minimize the outbreak and persistence of violent conflicts that stoke election processes.

“There is also a deliberate need to improve the perception of the public and to advance security accountability in the elections, to achieve this; the government must desist from political interference before, during, and after the elections.

“With this preliminary press briefing we hereby declare the CLEEN Foundation’s Election Security Support Centre Open ahead of the February 25th General Election, please feel free anytime to walk in for information and inquiry as we will be on hand to attend to all stakeholders, foreign and domestic observers alike”, he added.

The Department has also stated that it will partner with other sister security and law enforcement agencies; all levels and arms of Government and indeed all stakeholders particularly the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organisations to ensure a hitch-free electoral exercise.

” All of these said also the Police and the Armed Forces of Nigeria”, he added.

Reacting to the open hands enjoyed by security agencies to carry out their duties lawfully by President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Raymond Edoh thanked him for a good electoral structure and asking the people of Nigeria to shun enemies of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Edoh also called on politicians especially those in power to understand that the country has one President and as such none is above the law or should go contrary to the leadership of any incumbent president.
“We are disappointed at a few individuals who think they can do whatsoever they wish against the government of the day.

” President Buhari has said new notes are not in use and that stands. Moreover, it is to the interest of the nation at large. Why contrary declarations? If you wanna be the President, come on, go and contest and after victory you make your declarations as wished and the country will go by it. Not the other way round.

“However, we urge all Nigerians especially the youths to avoid been used to incite or instigate violence. If any is instigated, the instigators may end up not seeing the end. That we assure Nigerians and potential perpetrators if there would be any.

“International Police Chaplain Sustainable Development and Law Enforcement Inc., USA is come to ensure that the right thing is done. We are deployed around the entire 36 states including FCT and no stone would remain unturned. We are gallantly on ground to ensure a smooth election and to promote and enhance continuous democratic reign in the Nigeria Nation.

” I wish to reiterate that if any one tries to frustrate the elections, he or she might end up been humiliated to it’s pick”, he added.
