Eid-ul-Maulid: Edoh distributes 5k each to 200 youths urges them to believe in Renewed Hope Agenda

By Emmanuel Daudu

The United Nations Habitat Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Raymond Edoh has charged Nigerian youths to keep faith alive in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he distributes five thousand naira each to two hundred youths pointing out that the birth of Prophet Muhammad calls for the show of love to neighbors irrespective of religion, tribal, political differences.
“What matters most is that we are all humans”, he said.

Edoh who gave the charge in Lagos State during a delegation youth meeting he had with youths across the entire Local government Councils of Lagos state today, Wednesday with the theme: Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: Youths are not left Out”, in honour of the birth of Prophet Muhammad stressed that the birth of Prophet Muhammad calls for celebration, love and a renewed hope for Nigeria especially to the youth constituency even as he disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR mean well for Nigeria and Nigerians.

In his opening remarks, he has this to say,
“Eid-ul-Maulid, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi or simply Mawlid, is celebrated to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The word “Mawlid” translates to “birth” or “birthday” in Arabic, while “al-Nabi” means “the Prophet.”

“The significance of Eid-ul-Maulid varies among different Islamic traditions and cultures. Some Muslims consider it an important observance and celebrate it with great joy and reverence, while others do not observe it as a religious holiday at all. The celebration of Eid-ul-Maulid is more commonly practiced in some Muslim-majority countries, particularly in parts of Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia.

“For those who observe Eid-ul-Maulid, it is a way to express love, respect, and gratitude towards the Prophet Muhammad and to remember his life, teachings, and contributions to Islam. This day is often marked by special religious gatherings, processions, recitation of poetry and hymns, storytelling about the Prophet’s life, and lectures or sermons that highlight his virtues and teachings, all of which we are doing here this morning.

“Muslims who commemorate Eid-ul-Maulid often engage in charitable acts, such as giving to the poor and needy, organizing events to feed the hungry, or donating to charitable causes. It is also a time for personal reflection, self-improvement, and reaffirming one’s commitment to following the example set by the Prophet Muhammad.

“Overall, the significance of Eid-ul-Maulid lies in honoring and remembering the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and promoting unity, love, and compassion among Muslims. It serves as a time for reflection, spiritual growth, and the rekindling of faith.

Prophet Muhammad emphasized the importance of treating neighbors with kindness, respect, and compassion. He provided numerous teachings and examples that highlight the significance of good neighborly conduct. Here are a few notable statements attributed to the Prophet Muhammad regarding neighbors:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him treat his neighbor well.” (Sahih Bukhari)

“This hadith underscores the connection between faith in Allah and treating neighbors well. It encourages Muslims to recognize the importance of good conduct towards neighbors as an integral part of their religious beliefs.

“The best companion in the sight of Allah is the best to his companion, and the best neighbor in the sight of Allah is the best to his neighbor.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

“In this statement, the Prophet Muhammad emphasizes that being a good neighbor is highly regarded by Allah. It implies that treating neighbors well is not only a social obligation but also a means of attaining closeness to Allah.

“He who believes in Allah and the Last Day should do good to his neighbor.” (Sahih Muslim)

“This hadith urges Muslims to engage in acts of kindness and service towards their neighbors. It emphasizes the importance of practical deeds that benefit and support neighbors in their daily lives.

“By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe!” It was asked, “Who is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “One whose neighbor does not feel safe from his evil.” (Sahih Bukhari)

“This hadith highlights the severity of neglecting the rights of neighbors. The Prophet Muhammad states that a person who fails to ensure the safety and well-being of their neighbors cannot be considered a true believer.

“These teachings demonstrate the Prophet Muhammad’s emphasis on treating neighbors with kindness, care, and consideration. Muslims are encouraged to establish strong bonds with their neighbors, support them in times of need, and maintain harmonious relationships based on mutual respect and cooperation.

“Inasmuch as we are here all gathered to celebrate, and show solidarity in the Tinubu led government, please I urge us the youths to go back to our places and show love to our neighbors. Some of our neighbors don’t have food, transport to work, and several others, please check on them and show love according to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“One other way we can also show love by extension is by believing in the Renewed Hope Agenda. Doing so means showing love for this country and it’s components like the economy, the leadership of the country, and several others. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has this country and the youths of this country in mind. In a no distance time, policies and programs that would be rolled out will convince us all.

“Let’s please give him the necessary support and also ensure that we engage in legal activities and business to protect the image of the nation locally and international “, he urged

Seme Border: Dr. Raymond Edoh calls for immediate investigation as youth backs customs to end smuggling

By Emmanuel Daudu

The United Nations Habitat Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Raymond Edoh has called on the federal government to investigate a crisis that broke out at the Seme border recently leading to the death of no fewer than thirty-three Nigerians which was alleged to be fueled by smuggling of the Nigerian crude.

The Ambassador who spoke bitterly on the illegal act of smuggling pointed out the federal government is losing a lot of funds daily through the channels of the Nigerian borders.

While speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, he said, smugglers have been using the Seme border to smuggle at least 2000 liters of fuel daily from the Nigerian economy which is undergoing serious hard times at the moment.

In his opinion, he said, the Nigerian Customs Service should be allowed to do its job, and competent officers should be placed on such strategic borders to bring to an end such an act.
“Nigerians are suffering and a few individuals keep on smuggling fuel out of the already stressed economy at the detriment of the nation. This doesn’t only take place in Seme alone. Elena, Mobile, Katsina borders, and others are very cheap routes for smugglers and this must not continue again.

“The Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi should as a matter of urgency act fast and put this to an end while the federal government under the dynamic leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR investigate other security agencies who are aiding smuggling.

“It would be better these actions are taken now else we the youths of this country will not continue to fold our arms and keep watching as our future is determined by a few individuals, illegally.

“There are various measures that can be taken to curb smuggling and strengthen border security. Some of them are Increased patrolling: Increase the number of border guards and patrols to monitor the border more closely. This will help to detect and intercept smugglers before they can cross the border with their illegal goods.

“Use of technology: Employ technology such as drones, sensors, and other surveillance equipment to monitor the border in real time and detect illegal activities.

“Strengthening laws: Enforce stricter laws and penalties for smuggling and illegal activities at the border. This will act as a deterrent for smugglers and help to reduce the incidence of smuggling.

“Collaboration with neighboring countries: Work with neighboring countries to share intelligence information and coordinate efforts to combat smuggling.

“Training and education: Train border officials to identify and intercept smugglers and provide education to the public on the negative impacts of smuggling.

“Increasing resources: Increase resources such as funding, personnel, and equipment to enhance border security operations and combat smuggling effectively”.

Also speaking on the deteriorating collection of Customs Duties, Edoh has this to say, “Recently I have also noticed a slight fall in the collection of Customs duties. If any group of people is somewhere sabotaging the efforts of the CG Customs, it then means, they should be ready to fight with the Nigerian youths henceforth. We the Nigerian youths are solidly behind The Nigerian Customs Service CG, Adewale Adeniyi and he must succeed.

“We also recently gathered that 100s of cars are been smuggled in through the Kaduna border. This act doesn’t help Nigeria, and we the youths are standing up in solidarity with the Nigerian Customs to put to an end to smuggling under the leadership of Adewale Adeniyi. He has shown capacity and capability, and we the youths are passing a Vote of Confidence on him”.

Earlier, Edoh said, to ensure that customs duties are not lost, it’s important to follow proper procedures and maintain accurate documentation by Understanding the customs regulations: Familiarize yourself with the customs regulations and requirements of the country you are importing or exporting goods to/from. Each country has its own rules and procedures, and compliance is crucial to avoid any issues.

“Classify goods correctly: Accurately classify your goods according to the appropriate Harmonized System (HS) codes. The HS code determines the applicable customs duties and taxes. Use the customs tariff schedule of the country to determine the correct code for your goods.

“Accurate valuation: Properly value your goods for customs purposes. Follow the guidelines provided by the customs authority to determine the correct customs value, which includes the cost of goods, insurance, freight charges, and any other applicable charges.

“Complete documentation: Ensure that all necessary customs documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time. This typically includes invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and any other relevant documents required by the customs authority.

“Use a licensed customs broker: Consider using a licensed customs broker or freight forwarder to handle your customs clearance processes. They have expertise in navigating customs regulations and can help ensure compliance and accuracy in documentation.

“Maintain records: Keep detailed records of all transactions, including customs documents, receipts, and correspondence related to the import/export of goods. These records can serve as proof of compliance and can be helpful in case of any disputes or audits.

“Stay updated: Stay informed about any changes in customs regulations or procedures. Customs regulations can be subject to frequent updates and amendments, so it’s important to be aware of any changes that may affect your import/export activities.

“By following these steps, you can minimize the risk of customs duties being lost and ensure compliance with customs regulations. However, it’s always advisable to consult with a customs professional or seek legal advice for specific import/export transactions to ensure full compliance.

“Customs duties are a significant tool for national development especially in Nigeria. imposing customs duties, the government has been generating revenue to finance our development programs and initiatives. These funds are used to improve infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other important areas of the economy.

Furthermore, customs duties are used to protect domestic industries from foreign competition, promoting the growth of local production and the creation of jobs. High tariffs on imported goods can make them less competitive and encourage consumers to buy locally-produced goods.

“Customs duties are also used to regulate the import and export of goods, promoting the trade of certain goods over others. This over the years has benefited specific sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, and manufacturing, by opening up new opportunities for business and trade.

Overall, the use of customs duties has been an effective means for governments to achieve their developmental goals and strengthen their local economies.

“Having spoken this far, you would agree and see reasons with us, the Nigerian youths why smuggling should be put to an end in this nation.

“Henceforth, be mind made up to support the youths, CG Customs to end smuggling in Nigeria. Ending smuggling is a collective effort. And like I said earlier, we the Nigerian youths are Passing a Vote of Confidence on the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi and we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confirm his appointment because he has shown his worth, capability, wealth of proficiency, transparency and readiness to make the Nigerian Customs a digital one in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda”.

Edu Announces Restructuring Of National Safety Net Program, Says N-power ,Others were Established To Create Jobs, provide succour and Not cause Pain For Nigerians

Nigerian Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has announced new cluster heads of programme under the National Social Safety Net Programme in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to a press release signed by Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Honourable Minister, MHAPA on Tuesday,
26/09/2023, the minister said the changes became necessary to give new energy and sense of direction with desired results. There is no tolerance for excuse or failure.

Edu said the N-power and other Social Safety-Nets programs were rolled out to create jobs and not pains for Nigerians, reminding them that their appointments are under probation for a period of six months.

She warned that anyone who performed below expectations would be replaced, directing all of them to go to the field where the poor people live and not sit in their air-conditioned offices in Abuja. “Every day, you must be out on the field achieving results. Nigerians are waiting. We have zero tolerance for inefficiency, excuses, and failure. We need results and verifiable results”

The Minister explained that with over 70 million extremely poor who are living below 1.95 cents per day, it was clear that the old strategies must give way to a practical and acceptable approach in line with the vision of the President.

“The priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda aims at lifting 133 million Nigerians out of multi-dimensional poverty.”We are restructuring the programs under the National Social investment Programme to bring speed and realignment to the new mandate. Some program implementation has been delayed for two years; things must change and be done differently to get better results

The restructured programs will target the relevant people, be transparent and accountable, and rebuild the trust of the people in the government again.

Continuing, she said; “Beneficiaries of the program must be willing to sign full Disclosure. So they are verifiable by anyone.

‘We need to be more effective, imbibe private sector mentality, be flexible and have a team spirit mentality.

“NSIP and other programs will be expanded. Names of the programmes will be changed, such as Renewed Hope GEEP
Programme, Renewed Hope Job Creation Scheme(NPower), Renewed Hope for At Risk Children, Renewed Hope Shelter Programme for Refuges, Poor and IDPs, Renewed Hope Community and Social Development, National Cash Transfer Office and Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups.

“We are changing the model. We are changing implementation strategy, and we need to make it work at all cost. I will not hesitate to change anyone underperforming until the result is given, “she stated.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon Abel Enitan commended the Minister for her foresight for the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Enitan assured the minister of the support of the ministry staff and top management officers to actualize the set objectives.
